Cumwhinton, Cumbria

Four bedroom, semi submerged, family home built into a Cumbrian hillside. A three sided, reinforced concrete box was used to nestle the sleeping quarters of this house into the topography whilst a combination of steel frames and hand-made timber trusses create the open plan social areas above. Large apertures and a column free corner window open the building to the stunning surrounding countryside. The building is finished with horizontal larch rainscreen cladding to the walls and roof with all gutters and down pipes concealed creating a modern agricultural aesthetic.
