A House in the Woods, Perthshire
For over 50 years ‘A House in the Woods’ lay in a ruinous state slowing crumbling and falling apart. Our ambitious client saw the potential of the solid stone walls and a project was born.
SF Structures assisted with early structural appraisal, engaging the help of the Scottish Lime Centre, to assess the stone and mortar to develop a strategy for regeneration. Whilst the roof was replaced, and parts of the front elevation rebuilt, most of the original stone structure was saved.
Building Workshop worked carefully to celebrate the original Architecture whilst sensitively extending with contemporary interpretations of traditional rural forms. The main house was constructed using traditional timber elements, whilst the open plan extension was constructed of modern timber kit below a tied steel truss roof structure. Externally, the extension was clad with a standing seam roof and timber wall cladding.
A building saved and a truly stunning family home created.
